The European Contact Improvisation Teacher Exchange 2025 invites you to Warsaw for a special edition focusing on research and reflection through movement practice. This year, we explore how the physical and improvisational core of Contact Improvisation acts as a catalyst for building personal and collective resources—nurturing resilience, creativity, and the ability to connect.
Through shared practice, we are reflecting on the nature of CI, the form’s capacity to develop our physical, psychological, and collaborative skills; its potential to nurture creativity, empathy, and trust; and its relevance in addressing societal and ecological challenges of today.

𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗖𝗛 𝗣𝗔𝗧𝗛𝗦
The call for research enquiries resulted in these five research paths that we invite you to join in:
𝗚𝗔𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗜𝗡 𝗠𝗢𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡
Exploring how CI fosters community, care, and collective awareness through jamming, witnessing, and group dynamics, shaping relational spaces, ethical engagement, and the experience of being together in dance.
𝗕𝗘𝗬𝗢𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪𝗡 𝗕𝗢𝗗𝗬
Exploring the pedagogy of CI as a practice of unlearning ingrained social and perceptual patterns, expanding physical, relational, and spatial awareness. Exchanging practices and teaching approaches.
𝗖𝗜 𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘
Examining how CI functions as a performance form, how audience presence shapes improvisation, and how different media—such as camera, music, and structured improvisation—affect the experience.
𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗣𝗘𝗨𝗧𝗜𝗖 𝗧𝗢𝗨𝗖𝗛
Exploring CI’s therapeutic dimensions, focusing on touch, co-regulation, and nervous system support. How can CI foster safety, resilience, and connection? What role do slowness, attunement, and mindful attention play in healing? How does CI expand our sense of relationality beyond human interactions?
𝗧𝗢𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗗𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗪𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗘
The intersection of CI with spiritual and activist practices, drawing on Quaker worship, Buddhist and Eastern philosophies, and non-violence practices. Exploring deep listening, embodied connection, and collective transformation, with dance as a tool for healing, resistance, and alignment with the greater whole.
We plan an accompanying programme of whole group activities, including morning jams, workshops with special guests, and discussion circles.
𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗖𝗘𝗦𝗦
The application form is now open. We have approximately 50 spots available and aim to create a diverse, multicultural platform for dialogue. To achieve this, we may need to apply some admission criteria.
To avoid keeping you waiting too long, we’ve decided to send out confirmations for participation every two weeks until the list is complete. Our review dates are April 14th and 28th and May 5th and 19th. Please be patient with our replies during this process.
Join us to move, reflect, and exchange ideas at the heart of CI practice.
